Don’t Stop Pop (Kink N’ Guy Michael’s Pop This rmx) – Syntonics

Well, it’s been a LONG time since I last posted anything. That’s because I’ve been super busy in the studio getting several projects completed. The good news is I can finally tell you about the first of these super-secret projects:

Me and Guy Michael have worked up a twitchy bangy remix of Don’t Stop Pop by Syntonics. You can download it HERE. I’m really happy with the way this remix turned out. It’s all growly and glitchy, which really works with the original vocals in my opinion. Anyways, go ahead and download it and let me know what you think!

Coming up in the next month or so I’ve got two tracks coming out on the Bassteasers Digital label. One is my remix of Zombootie, the other is a yet undisclosed tune I’ve got a brewin’. Both are being released on all distribution channels through the Bassteasers guys.

New Mixtape up for Download!

As I was going through my archives and cleaning up my iTunes library I came across this live recording of a set I played at the Barfly in Glasgow, Scotland. I thought you might like to have a listen. This set was one of the first live performances I did using Ableton Live and represents a radical shift in the way I structure my music. Enjoy!

Klonez vs Van Dyk

Klonez is at it again! Following up his debut release on Bassteasers Digital, Klonez has entered the Beatportal remix contest. His mix of Far Away by Paul Van Dyk is up for your enjoyment. Don’t forget to give him a “spin” and support his mix!

Featured Mix: Destructo – The Dirty Dozen

Destructo first got into electronic music in the early 90’s, but it wasnt until his first rave in 2002 that he was introduced to hard dance music. He bought his first set of turntables in 2004, and in 2005 he was asked to co-host “The Beat Ranch Radio Show” with Sebby Bozak on 1Groove.com.

In 2006 “The Beat Ranch Radio Show” on 1Groove.com came to an end. However that wasn’t the end for Destructo and Sebby. In late October, TheBeatRanch.com was born, and since then has seen the likes of over 60 international DJs and producers being featured on the site, with over a 1000 hits a day! The site has also spawned its own digital label The Beat Ranch Digital, which has tracks from the scene’s leading producers such as Grady G, Frank Farrell, Riggsy, Rodi Style, Dan Dyson just to name a few.

In 2007, Destructo and Sebby Bozak had thier track Nato, remixed by Kam-Pain & The Space Sentinelz, and soon after it was signed to the record label Twisted Traxx. The track did so well it went right to #1 on the BangingTunes NRG chart.

In 2008 Destructo holds residence with the production company BassTeasers and has since played for others such as, New Music Order, Embedded, Nocturnal Commissions, Braincell and HighJinx.

It’s a Race!

So you may have noticed I haven’t been posting as often as I usually do. It’s been a crazy couple of weeks both personally and creatively. All I can say right now is that there are plenty of interesting developments on the horizon. At the moment, there is one bit of awesome news I can release:

Goodfellaz Race Against Time

Goodfellaz Race Against Time

Goodfellaz Race Against Time

That’s right, the Goodfellaz have announced details for their final event! I haven’t been this excited (and slightly sad) for a party in a long time. As I’ve mentioned before the ‘fellaz were a defining influence on my DJ career and an excellent group of peeps to party with. Their parties will be missed, but I for one plan to make sure they go out with a bang! In addition to spinning an all-original-vinyl set of classic late 90’s hard house (an homage to my contribution to the Goodfellaz heyday) my visual projections company “Amorphous Menace” will be supplying insane eye candy all night long! I know it’s a ways off still but MARK YOUR CALENDARS NOW!! This one’s going to be a scorcher!

Cam Maxwell

Local DJ Cam Maxwell (Aurora, ON) has a new mixtape up for grabs on his site at cammaxwell.com so go check it out! Cam is a current resident at FILM and the BASEMENT and rocks a great electro vibe. For bookings, you can contact him at cam@cammaxwell.com

Ursula 1000

Guy Michael pointed out this awesome download to me today. Apparently it’s the Ursula 1000 re-edit of a Crookers remix of Salt-n-Pepa’s “Push It”. At least that’s what I gather from the very limited info contained in the filename.

This is why I love the internet: first of all you stumble upon some kind of bootleg audio gold on a random filesharing site with no description but the filename. Then you start poking around throwing terms at a search engine only to find out that it’s a bootleg of a bootleg, probably. Finally, you realize that there are official websites for the two artists who bootleg remixed the original track, while the original artist has naught but a wikipedia entry on the first page of Google results.

Madness.

EDIT: “Sir Lord Pumpernickle” was kind enough to clarify: this is a mash up track of Crookers and the accapella of Push It, put together by Ursula 1000. werd.

Bigup the Batty Bass!

Batty Bass

Hannah Holland’s Batty Bass Blog has an awesome tune up for high quality download. It’s called Green Jungle and it’s got this kinda tech-house-meets-hard-bangy-electro thing going on. I’m really feeling it and it’s definitely worth checking out.

In other news, now that the studio is up and running with all my sweet new gear I’ve finally had a chance to throw myself headlong into production of my next Bassteasers release! It’s a wobbly bowl of jelly (with some fruity chunks in) and it features a fun vocal sample from Guy Michael. The story behind the vocal sample is pretty funny actually: I tend to use really stupid and memorable words (or word combinations) to title the file names of all the projects I’m working on in the studio. Guy saw one of these file names while I was scrolling through projects and it inspired him to create this neat-o vocal riff, which he recorded and brought by the studio weeks later. I ended up using the sample in a completely different track, which I later gave up on (this happens a lot, damn attention deficit disorder). But last week after conjuring up a monster of a bassline I dropped in the vocal sample and it totally worked. So now voila! I have a new track featuring Guy Michael and it’s ALMOST DONE.

Featured Artists!

So, one of the ideas I’ve had in the works for the site is to feature various producers and DJs who are “up and coming” and need a forum for their work. I’ve contacted a few people already, but I thought I would open it up to anyone reading the blog. If you have a mixtape or a track you’ve produced and you would like it featured on the site, contact me here and I’ll give it a listen. If it’s dope I’ll host it up on my servers for free and you’ll get a featured artist page on the site with info, pics and of course music downloads! I’m looking for any genre of electronic music really, I’m pretty open minded and I tend to have eclectic tastes. Mixtapes should be between 30 minutes to an hour, sent via Zshare or similar file-sharing site.

So get those submissions rolling in… let’s hear what you’ve got!
